The Future Planning of Teignmouth 2013 - 2033

Teignbridge Core Strategy

Teignbridge District Council (TDC) has recently consulted on its draft Core Strategy proposals for the entire District. If adopted, this will become Teignbridge's planning document for the period from 2013 to 2033. This consultation ran until 2nd March 2012 and contained a specific Teignmouth section. Many thousands of people across the District have submitted comments on the plan, including a very substantial proportion of Teignmouth residents. Teignbridge is now assimilating comments and looking at next steps.

An emerging Teignmouth Community Plan

We at Teignmouth Town Council recently voted unanimously to put forward our own proposals as an alternative for the people of the town to consider, and these were submitted to Teignbridge on 2nd March 2012. We believe the people of the town should be able to consider another option, that we believe will be a reasoned and evidence based alternative to the proposals on offer.

Under the Government's Localism Act of 2011 we are able, as a community, to put forward our own alternative plans, providing they are sound. By having our own Neighbourhood Plan in place we believe this provides us with protection if the Teignbridge Core Strategy is delayed for any reason. If we have our own Neighbourhood Plan in place that has been adopted, we expect this to be taken into consideration when making planning decisions.

Our plan is very strongly evidence based and aims to closely balance the town's affordable housing needs, with creating sustainable long-term employment growth and protecting the environment, which is such an important factor in residents' quality of life and in attracting visitors to our town. Our plan aims to accord with TDC's core strategy objectives and meets the key issues identified within the core strategy.

We aim to consult widely with Teignmouth residents, businesses and community groups on our proposals in the near future.

Our plan has been published on the web site 'www.teignmouthcouncil.co.uk' please follow the MORE link below.
